Seal Registration
In Japan, rather than using signatures, an inkan (personal seal) is usually used for many occasions, including for the conclusion of contracts. In addition, to conclude important contracts, you are often required to use a registered seal. After registering your seal at the city office, you can then obtain a certificate of seal registration. By attaching the certificate, you can use the registered seal officially.
Application for Seal Registration
Registered residents in Chuo City aged 15 or older are eligible to apply for this registration. To register your seal, visit the City Office (either the Head Office or a special branch office) with the seal you intend to register and your residence card/special permanent resident certificate. When the registration process is completed, you will receive your seal registration card (a plastic card). The seal registration fee is ¥50.
If someone else applies for this registration on your behalf, they must bring a power of attorney written by you. As a registered seal must meet certain required conditions, please contact the City Office before you apply.
Obtaining the Certificate of Seal Registration
You can obtain copies of the certificate of seal registration by presenting your seal registration card. You do not need to bring the seal itself. The issuance fee is ¥300 per copy.
