Medical care( Medical Examinations at Hospitals, Etc.)

General Procedure for Receiving a Medical Examination

  1. Present your public health insurance card at the reception counter, and notify them if it is your first time to be examined at that institution. Submit any referral letters you have from a different medical institution.
If it is not your first time, present your patient registration card. If it is your first examination of a new month, present your health insurance card as well. Please inform the reception counter if you do not have a health insurance card.
  2. If it is your first time there, fill out the medical examination registration form and other documents and submit them at the reception counter.
  3. Wait your turn in the waiting area.
  4. When it is your turn, your name will be called (or your number will be displayed if you received a number slip).
  5. The doctor examines you in the examination room.
  6. Wait in the waiting area after your examination is complete.
  7. When your name is called or your number is displayed, pay your fee at the reception counter.
  8. If you require medication, you will either receive it at the hospital or be given a prescription. If you are given a prescription, take it to a pharmacy to obtain your prescription.

* If you do not have a health insurance card, you will have to pay the full amount of your medical fee. With medical insurance coverage, patients pay approximately 30% (please view p. 50, “National Health Insurance Coverage,” for more details) of the total fee. These figures may change due to revisions to the system.
