Health Checkups for Infants and Toddlers
To promote the healthy growth of infants, checkups are provided for infants and toddlers from three to four, six to seven and nine to 10 months old, as well as at 18 months and three years of age. The three-/four-month and three-year checkups are conducted at public health centers, while the checkups at six/seven, nine/10 and 18 months are conducted at hospitals and other medical facilities designated by the city.
In addition, public health centers offer dental checkups for children at 18 months and three years of age, as well as childcare consultations when necessary. Health consultations for infants and toddlers are available at public health centers.

For Premature Babies
If your newborn is in a significantly weakened condition with a birth weight of 2,000 grams or less, or your doctor deems it necessary that your baby stays in the hospital, you may be exempt from partial or full medical costs as long as your baby is hospitalized in a clinic or hospital designated by the Japanese government. Eligibility and applicable percentage of the exemption depend on the income level of the parents/guardians.

Subsidy for Medical Expense for Chronic Pediatric Diseases
Chuo City offers financial support to cover medical expenses for the families of children who suffer from chronic diseases such as heart disease, connective tissue disease and chronic kidney disease. Please inquire for details.

Subsidy for Children’s Medical Expenses
Children can receive medical treatments covered by insurance programs practically free of charge until the first March 31 following their 15th birthday. The portion of the medical fees that the patient needs to pay is borne by Chuo City.

Vaccinations
There are two types of vaccinations in Japan: periodic vaccinations (recommended by the government) and optional vaccinations.
The health center will notify you when vaccinations are available (does not include the Human papillomavirus [HPV; cervical cancer] vaccine or the antibody test and vaccine for rubella [voluntary vaccination]).

Antibody test for rubella
Eligible age
Residents 19 years old or older who have not been exposed to rubella, have not been vaccinated, or have not been tested (history of exposure, vaccination, or testing unknown) and fall into either one of the following categories:
1) Women who wish to become pregnant, and their co-residents
2) A person living with a pregnant woman

1) Residents whose antibody titer was found to be insufficient in the above antibody test
