Fires
Fires occur more frequently in winter in Japan. Always be alert to prevent fires in everyday life. If a fire breaks out, take action by keeping the following guidelines in mind.
- Shout loudly to warn your neighbors and ask for help in putting the fire out.
- Call 119 and try to control the fire until a fire truck arrives. For times such as these, learn how to use a fire extinguisher.
- The smoke from fires contains toxic gases. If you are escaping a fire, be sure to cover your mouth with a towel and stay as low to the ground as you can.
How to Use a Fire Extinguisher
- Pull out the safety pin.
- Point the nozzle at the source of the fire.
- Squeeze the lever to discharge the agent and sway the extinguisher side to side at the source of the fire.
